One of the ancient heroes from the founding days of the Empire, Îril of Paver was not actually present at the founding itself, unlike others such as Karslan. He was born on Paver, a moon that was and still is a paradise. Paver was actually quite close to Tarsis, believed to have been settled just a few decades before the cataclysm hit when its millennia-long terraforming cycle finally completed.
Îril had no reason to believe he would one day become a hero. He grew up in one of the small bands that made a comfortable if primitive living on the moon. The Emperor recruited him when his fleet arrived, the first official Imperial reconquest. For what reason, no one can truly say, but one is tempted to think the Emperor saw potential in him, as he did for all his commanders.
Legend has it that Îril's talent for planning and thinking ahead became a keystone of the reconquest, one that eventually earned him his own fleet and subsequent promotion to Fleet Lord. Îril's war was not one of conquest like Karslan's, but a war of liberation and rebuilding. He took special care to leave each planet he brought into the Empire better than how he had found it. For this reason, Îril expanded the least on his front of the war, but left it in better condition than his comrades. He, unlike Karslan, remains well-thought of to this day, though he is often eclisped by later, fiercer heroes.
