Mezara's only claim to fame is that its count once seized the Imperial throne, and then died a few months later after he could not make the transition from Mezara's atmosphere to Tarsis's. His son succeeded him, but turned out to be insane, Archive accounts reading: "[The Emperor] looks in a distracted manner, glancing off at empty spaces like he had seen something most wicked... He holds court for hours at a time, in absolute silence. The Emperor sits upon the throne, sitting straight up and gripping the armrests tightly... His eyes slowly move across the whole room, and if they linger upon any one person, they would prostrate themselves in forgiveness."

The Baron of nearby Rûkal-Kur, Tîrithôs Stavô, was called in to serve as the Emperor's regent, being a friend of his father's. He ran into trouble with the Emperor's power-hungry wife, and between the two of them, managed to reduce Imperial authority to a joke. His son took the throne at the age of fourteen, but was faced with barbarian invasion, and abdicated at the command of the zaian. The Mezaran regime barely lasted three generations, but was responsible for many of the problems that followed in what came to be known as the Age of Affliction. Ever since then, Mezara has been treated warily by the leading men of the Empire, and has become something of a byword for everything that can go wrong going wrong.
